Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" Ashburn and her husband worked as the Fixed Based Operator (FBO) at Beacon Field from 1931 until 1942. With Bob as President and Betty as Secretary-Treasurer, they entered into a formal business agreement with the airport owner, W.F.P. Reid, to operate as Ashburn Flying Service on the airfield . After WWII, they moved their operations to Hybla Valley Airport, 1 mile south on US Route 1 from Beacon Field.
